Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2026: Dates, Walking Tips and Where to Stay

The pleasure of this exhibition is the collision of scale: small works discovered beside the path, ambitious forms holding their own against sandstone cliffs, and the Pacific constantly changing the backdrop. Around 100 works by Australian and international artists turn the coast into a temporary outdoor gallery.

It is free, spectacular and deservedly busy. A weekday morning offers the best balance of softer light, cooler walking and enough space to look rather than simply move with the crowd.

The usual route begins near the southern end of Bondi Beach, climbs around Mackenzies Point and Marks Park, and continues towards Tamarama. The exhibition is outdoors, so weather, coastal wind and crowd levels all affect the experience.

When should you go?

For the easiest visit, choose a weekday morning. The light is softer, temperatures are cooler and the path is calmer than it is on sunny weekends.

If a weekend is your only option, start early and avoid trying to park close to the walk. Special-event clearways and additional bus movements are common during major Bondi events, and street parking becomes scarce.

How long should you allow?

Allow at least two hours for the exhibition itself, longer if you want to read every label, take photographs or stop in Tamarama. The coastal path includes stairs and narrow sections; it is not a flat gallery floor.

Visitors who want a longer walk can continue towards Bronte or complete the full six-kilometre Bondi-to-Coogee route. If you do that, allow two to three hours for the coastal walk alone, plus time for the sculptures and stops.

What to bring

Wear shoes suitable for steps, bring water and use sun protection. A light jacket is sensible because exposed headlands can feel cool even on a sunny day. Keep the route clear when stopping for photographs and follow temporary signs around installations.

Visiting with children or limited mobility

Families should expect stairs, crowding and cliff-edge sections. Marks Park has facilities and open space, but the complete route may not suit every pram or mobility requirement. Sculpture by the Sea publishes access-program information, including bookable tactile tours, closer to the exhibition. Check the official accessibility details rather than assuming the entire coastal route is step-free.

Stay in North Bondi for Sculpture by the Sea
