Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim 2026: The Correct Date and Visitor Guide

Race morning gives the familiar coastline a different pulse. Swimmers gather in Bondi Bay, safety craft mark the course and spectators choose between the charged start, a headland view or the finish at Bronte.

In 2026 the main race returns to the Bondi-to-Bronte direction and the five-kilometre option returns for experienced swimmers. The date and final briefing should always come from the organiser, not a calendar copied from a previous year.

Course distance can vary slightly according to conditions and buoy placement. Swimmers should rely on the final event-day briefing rather than a map saved months earlier.

For swimmers

This is an ocean event, not a pool race. Entrants need to be comfortable with surf entry, open-water navigation, swell and changing conditions. Read the organiser's eligibility, check-in and safety information carefully, and do not treat a holiday article as race instruction.

Staying nearby reduces event-morning logistics. You can eat and prepare in the apartment, walk to registration and avoid searching for a park while roads and beach access are busy.

For spectators

The atmosphere begins at Bondi, where swimmers assemble and enter the water. The coastal path offers elevated viewpoints, but some sections may be crowded or controlled for safety. Bronte provides the main finish-line energy for the point-to-point swim.

Choose one priority: watch the start in Bondi, walk south to a headland viewpoint, or position yourself near the finish in Bronte. Trying to move a group between every location can mean missing the race.

Getting there

Public transport or walking is preferable. Route 333 serves North Bondi, Bondi Beach, Bondi Junction and Circular Quay. Check the Transport for NSW Trip Planner and the organiser's event-day page for temporary changes.

Where to stay

Our two-bedroom North Bondi apartment accommodates up to four guests and is approximately a 10-minute walk from Bondi Beach. It has a full kitchen, internal laundry, lift access and an undercover parking space suited to a small or medium car—useful for swimmers travelling with gear, while still allowing you to walk to the start.
