Bondi Markets Guide: What to Visit on Saturday and Sunday

THE SHORT ANSWERSaturday is Bondi Farmers Market from 9am to 1pm; Sunday is Bondi Markets from 10am to 4pm. They share a location but not a personality.

Saturday morning smells of bread, coffee and market produce. By Sunday, the same school grounds have changed register: fashion rails, jewellery, art, homewares and vintage finds replace the grocery baskets.

Both markets take place at Bondi Beach Public School opposite the beach, near Campbell Parade and Warners Avenue. Choose Saturday to provision an apartment or picnic; choose Sunday to browse for something you are unlikely to find in a shopping centre.

Saturday: Bondi Farmers Market

The Saturday market brings together growers, bakers, providores and food makers. Expect seasonal fruit and vegetables, artisan bread, farmstead cheese, seafood, olive oil, flowers and ready-to-eat breakfast or lunch.

It works particularly well at the start of a self-catering stay. Pick up breakfast, fresh ingredients and something easy for a beach picnic, then walk across Campbell Parade to the sand.

Sunday: Bondi Markets

Sunday is more about browsing than groceries. Stalls feature emerging designers, vintage curators, handmade jewellery, records, art and one-off homewares. Stock changes, which is part of the appeal.

If you want a useful souvenir rather than a mass-produced one, Sunday offers the better search. Allow time to look rather than racing through before the beach.

Which day should you choose?

Choose Saturday for food, a relaxed breakfast and apartment supplies. Choose Sunday for shopping and gifts. If you are staying for a full weekend, visit both: they are different enough to justify it.

Getting there from North Bondi

The markets are on the northern side of the main beach precinct and are easy to combine with North Bondi cafés, the promenade and a swim. Parking becomes difficult on sunny weekends, so walking is the least stressful option when you are staying nearby.

Our two-bedroom North Bondi apartment is approximately a 10-minute walk from Bondi Beach, with a full kitchen for anything you bring home from the farmers market. It also includes undercover parking for a small or medium car, so the car can stay put while you explore.

A simple market morning

Start with the market when it opens, take your food down to the beach, swim only between the red and yellow flags, then continue around North Bondi or walk south towards Bondi Pavilion. On Sunday, reverse the order if you want to avoid carrying shopping on the sand.

Market hours can change for severe weather, holidays or special events. Confirm directly before making a trip solely for the market.
