THE SHORT ANSWERYes, Bondi works well without a car. Route 333 connects North Bondi and Bondi Beach with Bondi Junction and Circular Quay, while most beach, dining and coastal-walk plans begin on foot.
The rhythm is simple: bus for the city, shoes for the neighbourhood. Once luggage is inside, Bondi Pavilion, the promenade, weekend markets, North Bondi food and the start of the coastal route are more naturally experienced at walking pace than through a windscreen.
A taxi or rideshare can still make sense for an early flight, late dinner or heavy bags. Car-free does not need to become doctrinaire; it means choosing a vehicle only when it improves the day.
The essential route: bus 333
Route 333 runs between North Bondi and Circular Quay via Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction. It is the most useful single route for many visitors because it connects:
- North Bondi
- Campbell Parade and Bondi Beach
- Bondi Junction station
- Oxford Street and the city
- Circular Quay for ferries, the Opera House and The Rocks

Trains from Bondi Junction
Bondi Junction is the nearest railway station. From there, the T4 Eastern Suburbs line provides a quick link to the CBD and connections across Sydney.
The practical pattern is simple: bus from North Bondi or Bondi Beach to the Junction, then train. On the return trip, follow signs for the correct bus stand because several eastern-suburbs routes use the interchange.
Walkable Bondi
From a North Bondi base you can walk to the beach, Ben Buckler, weekend markets, Bondi Pavilion, the sea wall and the start of the Bondi-to-Coogee coastal walk.
The full coastal walk to Coogee is six kilometres one way and takes approximately two to three hours before stops. Plan public transport back rather than assuming everyone will want to walk twelve kilometres return.
Useful local connections
Route 380 links Bondi Junction and Watsons Bay via Bondi Beach, while route 379 connects North Bondi and Bronte. Routes can be useful for a harbour-side day trip or returning from part of the coast, but confirm the live route before departure.
Paying for travel
Sydney's Opal network accepts Opal cards and eligible contactless bank cards or devices. Each adult traveller should tap on and off with the same card or device. Children and concession travellers should check the correct fare product rather than sharing an adult card.
When a taxi or rideshare still helps
Use door-to-door transport for early flights, late arrivals, heavy luggage or a dinner where several transfers would outweigh the savings. A car-free stay does not mean every journey must be by bus.
Our two-bedroom apartment is approximately a 10-minute walk from Bondi Beach, so most daily essentials are close. For guests who do drive, an undercover space for a small or medium car is included; you can park it and explore locally on foot.
